Duke star Cooper Flagg voted “the best player in America" in 2024-25 season by college basketball coaches

Cooper Flagg has begun working out with the Duke Blue Devils but has yet to play a college game. However, top coaches throughout the collegiate circuit look at him as the best Division I basketball player in the country.

As part of the Candid Coaches series by CBS Sports, more than 100 Division I basketball coaches were enquired about their top choice for the best college player in the 2024-25 season. As a result, 36% sided with the Blue Devils’ freshman Cooper Flagg.

Alabama Crimson Tide’s retuning senior Mark Sears garnered second place with 22% of the votes while Kansas' Hunter Dickinson and Tar Heels’ RJ Davis accumulated 16% and 15%, respectively.

Extensive details of the voters and their preferences are not released and might remain that way. However, coaches’ leaning toward the 17-year-old signifies the skill set and the promise he holds; other top four players are in their senior years with significant playing/starting experience.

A more realistic assumption of Cooper Flagg can be churned in November when the college season begins. Until then, Flagg’s hype comes behind his regularity in living up to expectations.

Not only did he perform well throughout his high school matchups but also held his own during scrimmages against Team USA which clinched gold in the Olympics.

Cooper Flagg is already giving back to the community

With his professional basketball career solidified, Cooper Flagg returned to the University of Maine with his brother Ace Flagg to host the ‘Cooper and Ace Flagg Basketball ProCamp.’

The duo partnered with their coaches in the two-day event on Aug. 10 and 11 to hand out tips, drills, fundamental training and lectures to the coming generation of hoopers. Moreover, a 10:1 participant-to-coach/player ratio was targeted to ensure maximum attention to each individual. The groups were formed based on the age and skill set of the kids.

The comprehensive camp featured contests, non-contact games and fun-filled drills. Moreover, every participant was given autographed souvenirs, photos and ProCamp goodies related to the Flagg brothers.

Players from the school’s men’s and women’s basketball squads also helped around, making the event a wholesome interaction between two generations.
