Ex-NBA star gets fired up as Olivia Miles sets historic Notre Dame record
Notre Dame point guard Olivia Miles set the college basketball record for most triple-doubles in program history, encompassing both genders, on Sunday. She tallied 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in the Fighting Irish's 97-54 victory over the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds.
It was Miles' second triple-double of the season, and her latest feat came more than a month after she recorded her first triple-double of the season: a 20-10-10 production against Mercyhurst on Nov. 4.
The Instagram page of HighlightHER celebrated Miles' feat with a post captioned:
"Triple-double machine 😮💨🔥 She accomplished this only 2.5 seasons 👀."
Fans hailed Miles' achievement, and former NBA star Quentin Richardson was one of them. He commented with six fire emojis in admiration for the senior point guard.
Quentin Richardson played for five NBA teams — LA Clippers, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, Miami Heat and Orlando Magic — in 13 seasons. The 6-foot-6 DePaul standout suited up for 783 games in the NBA and averaged 10.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
Richardson currently hosts the podcast "Knuckleheads" with former NBA player Darius Miles.
Latest triple-double to help boost Olivia Miles' 2025 WNBA draft stock
Notre Dame point guard Olivia Miles is making big strides in the 2024-25 women's college basketball season. Her fifth triple-double against Loyola Maryland added to her legend in South Bend.
Even if the playmaker is highly rated in ESPN's initial mock draft, the record-setting feat may supplant one or two higher-ranked players. The 5-foot-10 Miles was a projected No. 4 overall pick in Michael Voepel's 2025 WNBA mock draft posted last month.
Miles at that time was coming off a solid first two weeks, where she had her first triple-double of the season in the Fighting Irish's nonconference opener against Mercyhurst. UConn's Azzi Fudd and USC's Kiki Iriafen were ranked No. 3 and No. 2 on the list, respectively.
And since Fudd has played sparingly for the Huskies this season, there's a possibility that Miles could overtake her in the next edition of the mock draft.
The Chicago Sky hold the third pick in the 2025 WNBA draft, and new coach Tyler Marsh could need a steady playmaker who will set up plays for the twin-tower combo of Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese.
Iriafen isn't a lock yet at No. 2 either, especially if Miles continues to boost her draft stock with more meaningful production compared to the Trojans' forward, who normally gets her production from JuJu Watkins' passes or missed attempts.
The LA Sparks own the rights to the second overall pick. They could face a tight situation on who to draft if Iriafen and Miles continue to tally major productions for their respective teams.
