Flau'jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow heap praise on LSU teammate after win vs Charleston So: “Able to execute at a high level”
Flau'jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow have stepped up to lead the LSU Tigers this season. Their 2024-25 campaign is off to an impressive start, as they have won their first three games with huge margins. Junior guard Kailyn Gilbert, a transfer from Arizona, has made significant contributions in the last two matchups.
During a press conference after LSU's 117-44 win over Charleston on Tuesday, Johnson and Morrow were asked about their new teammate, and they had nothing but praise for her.
"It's great playing with Kailyn (Gilbert)," Morrow said (00:36). "I would just say that her intensity and just pushing the ball up the floor really helps our team. She adds this extra oomph. But she's been doing that in practice every day and you get to see it on the floor."
"I think she just really just pushes the pace really well," Johnson added. "I think she's finally figured out the system and things like that and she's just able to execute at a high level."
Gilbert averaged 15.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists last season with the Wildcats. She had 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists and six steals on Friday against Northwestern State. On Tuesday, against Charleston Southern, she finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and three steals.
Flau'jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow eyeing team and individual honors
Over the last two seasons, Angel Reese and Flau'jae Johnson have been the driving force on the court for the Tigers, with Morrow and others providing support. This time, Morrow is taking on Reese's role, aiming to build on the Tigers' Elite Eight run from last season.
Alongside the team’s ambitions, Johnson and Morrow are also eyeing personal accolades. They are on the watch lists for the conference team and the Naismith Women’s Player of the Year.
Morrow discussed these aspirations during her appearance at SEC Media Day.
"I would say just the media honors for me, just trying to stay motivated with my team," the guard said. "Me and Flau'jae gonna challenge each other every day like we did last year with steals and just on the floor. So, just continuing to challenge each other and work hard."
The partnership between Flau’jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow is crucial for the Tigers' success in the 2024-25 season. LSU's next challenge is against Murray State on Friday.
