Johnson played basketball for Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia, where she was named Region 6-6A Player of the Year. A McDonald's All-American, Johnson earned most valuable player honors at the Jordan Brand Classic after scoring 27 points.

The 5 ft 10 guard became the first player to have her jersey number retired by Sprayberry after ending her high school basketball career as the school's all-time leading scorer. Shortly after, she joined LSU and helped the program win the national championship in her freshman year.

Flau'jae Johnson has since established herself as a key member of Kim Mulkey's team, helping the Tigers to reach the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight three times in her three years at the Baton Rouge. The LSU guard will return for her senior season where she is expected to take on more leadership roles after Aneesah Morrow left for the WNBA.
