Former Kansas star Jalen Wilson drops a two-worded message to celebrate Bill Self’s big achievement

Bill Self became the winningest coach in Kansas Jayhawks basketball history after the No. 1 program beat Michigan State 77-69 on Tuesday at the Champions Classic in Atlanta.

It was his 591st win while leading the university in his 22nd season. Self not only surpasses Phog Allen’s 590-219 record but also does it in 75 fewer games.

For that, Brooklyn Nets' small forward and former Kansas player Jalen Wilson congratulated his college coach on Instagram. He left a two-word message for Self as he reposted one of the Jayhawks' latest posts around the win.

"The Goat," Wilson wrote.

As Bill Self enters the locker room in the video, he is ambushed by Hunter Dickinson. As the program star pours a bucket of water on the coach to celebrate his feat, the entire locker room cast follows. The crew soon gathered in a huddle, jumping to the cheers of "591."

However, Self ensured his roster remained on the right track. Right after exchanging speeches, Self gathered his squad together and led the huddle call of "Big 12 Champs."

Minutes later, Jalen Wilson reposted Adidas Basketball's post about the coach, which celebrated the selflessness in Self's culture over the years.

Bill Self remains humble after his achievement

With his records at Oral Roberts (55-54), Tulsa (74-27) and Illinois (78-24), Bill Self is just two wins away from touching the 800-win mark in his career. However, when asked about his latest feat, he resorted away from talking about his career and commended the players he has coached in the last 22 years.

Self also said that Phog Allen will continue to be the best coach in Kansas Jayhawks history.

“It means I’m old and it means I’ve had a lot of really good players,” he said. "No, we are proud about that. I hadn't thought about that at all. But certainly proud about it. But Phog Allen is still gonna be the all-time best coach at Kansas."

The Jayhawks have now opened their season on a 3-0 run (No. 1 in Big 12) and will face Oakland on Saturday.
