Former LSU star Angel Reese's teammate Kateri Poole discloses why she left the Kim Mulkey squad

Last year, Kateri Poole was surprisingly taken off the Kim Mulkey roster. At first, it seemed to be a temporary reset, just like Angel Reese's 4-game absence at the start of the 2023 season. However, the situation was much more pressing.

Neither Mulkey nor Poole opened up about the sudden disassociation with the Tigers at the time.

Nevertheless, Poole was inquired about his LSU situation on September 26. The point guard claimed that Kim Mulkey suspected her of leaking confidential information to another program, which led to her dismissal.

"Truthfully, [Mulkey] said that I sent in a scouting report to another school," she said.
"I ain't do that s***... I was like, 'What do we do now?' She said, 'You're kicked off.' I said, 'Boom, aight.' She said, 'No longer on the team.' I took it, asked if I could still play. She said 'yep.' Scholarship, boom, was allowed to transfer. Now, I'm at Houston. Please stop asking me about that s***," Poole added.

When Kim Mulkey dropped the news around Poole's ousting, all the coach said was,

"She's no longer with us" (These comments are from December 2023, after the Tigers' win over the Lousiana).

Her last game with the Tigers was on November 18, 2023, where she scored one point and one assist in LSU's win over the SE Louisiana Lady Lions. She transferred to the Houston Cougars after the 2023–24 season.

Kateri Poole's time with Kim Mulkey

Coming off two seasons with the Ohio State Buckeyes, Kateri Poole was not eyed for more than being a role player for Kim Mulkey. She started only six of her 35 games and operated mostly as a secondary ball handler and a shooting threat.

She averaged 4.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.5 blocks in her first year with LSU, being a great help piece in the program's championship run.

Her best game was the season debut against the Bellarmine Knights, Kateri Poole dropped 14 points in 15 minutes by making 66.7% of her shots.

However, the only other time Poole touched double-digit scoring with LSU was nearly a month later against Tulane Green Wave (11 points).
