Former Syracuse HC Jim Boeheim has blunt take on UConn HC Dan Hurley's Lakers job offer: "It's a different mindset"

The biggest news from this offseason has been UConn coach Dan Hurley and the Los Angeles Lakers' offer he received after coach Darvin Ham's firing. Hurley rejected the move to the West Coast and has since signed a $50 million, six-year contract extension with the Huskies.

Former Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim commented on Hurley's situation, claiming that moving to LA would not have worked out for him.

"I love Dan Hurley, he’s a great college coach," Boeheim said. "I think it’s sometimes hard for some coaches to go from college to the NBA. It’s a different mindset. You know you’re not yelling at LeBron James and Anthony Davis five times a week, you know they’re not listening to that.
"And I think Danny’s great, he’s tough, and he gets on his players and that works in college, and he’s figured it out. He’s the best college coach, I’m happy for him that he went back, I think he’s better suited in college. You know Mike Krzyzewski made a decision many years ago that he was a better-suited college coach and it worked out pretty good for him."

Dan Hurley was not the first to consider a move to the NBA. While legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski was only offered a role, Rick Pitino and John Calipari joined the NBA. However, they failed miserably and returned to college coaching. Former Michigan coach Juwan Howard has signed with the Brooklyn Nets for the upcoming season, but the verdict is out on his work.

Dan Hurley breaks down his plans for the upcoming season

After two back-to-back championships, Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies will approach the upcoming season with huge pressure. They stand a chance at potentially becoming the second school in history to go three-peat after the UCLA Bruins. And Hurley already has a plan in motion.

During an interview on the "Gary Parrish Show," coach Hurley said:

"I think the year will come down to guard play whether we can be the best team in the country again it’s going to come down to [players] like Diarra, Solo Ball, and Aidan, and can these guys give us close to what we’ve been getting at the guard spots because three through five is probably going to be just as good or better than what we’ve had at those positions. But it looks pretty good to me.”

Liam McNeeley joins Isaiah Abraham as incoming freshmen, along with Aidan Mahaney and Tarris Reed Jr. coming from the transfer portal. Alex Karaban returns as the championship-winning starter.
