Egor Demin topped the Cougars' offense with 20 points, five rebounds and seven assists, while Keba Keita added a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. The program dominated the inside lane, scoring 48 points in the paint while allowing the Highlanders 14 inside points.

Fouss Traore added 14 points and six boards for BYU, who improved to 2-0.

The victory stretched the Cougars' nonconference winning streak at the Marriott Center to 15 games, and Young became the first coach to win the first two games of his tenure since Roger Reid went 4-0 in the 1989-90 season.

Kaleb Smith led UC Riverside with 20 points.

Up next for BYU is Queens on Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET (7 p.m. MST).
