“Getting old”: South Carolina’s Raven Johnson wishes old friend Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards on 23rd birthday
South Carolina Gamecocks star Raven Johnson took to social media to celebrate her NBA friend Anthony Edwards' birthday. The guard took to Instagram to celebrate the Minnesota Timberwolves star's 23rd birthday. Edwards is currently a part of Team USA's men's basketball team vying for a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Anthony Edwards turned 23 on Aug. 5. Raven Johnson shared a post on her Instagram story of the Timberwolves star posing on the basketball court in a Team USA jersey. Johnson accompanied the post with a caption that read:
"Happy Birthday @theanthonyedwards Getting old!!', Johnson wrote on Instagram.
The pair seem to share a closer friendship and bond. Johnson and her team, along with head coach Dawn Staley, emerged as national champions last season. Anthony Edwards took to social media to congratulate Johnson and the Gamecocks on their victory, while referring to her as his daughter:
"Proud of my daughter @HollywoodRaven", Edwards wrote in the caption on his tweet on X/Twitter.
Johnson was a key part of Dawn Staley's team during their undefeated natty run last season. She career finished the season averaging 8.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game along with a field goal percentage of 44.3%.
Raven Johnson heaps praise on teammate MiLaysia Fulwiley's consistency
On South Carolina's documentary called "Love the Game", the Gamecocks star had a lot of positive things to say while talking about her teammate MiLaysia Fulwiley. She went on to laud Fulwiley's consistency on the court and her incredible performance against LSU during the SEC tournament championship game:
(from 7:10 mark onward)
"She has a really competitive spirit about her, like she does not want to lose. Ain't nobody stopping her. She also developed a 3-ball, a consistent 3-ball. She added that to her game, it's hard to stop her, like she's gonna pluck it, she's gonna score the ball," Johnson said.
Johnson is currently preparing for her fourth season with South Carolina.
Can she and her team go on to continue their undefeated winning streak under the guidance of legendary coach Dawn Staley? Or will the Gamecocks fail to emerge as back-to-back natty champs this upcoming season?
