Hailey Van Lith makes Orlando Magic’s Jalen Suggs and brother Tanner do 30 push-ups after “whooping on” them in board game
Hailey Van Lith is equally competitive and confident off the court as she is on the hardwood. A glimpse of the same came in Overtime's exclusive "Day In The Life With" YouTube series. When the TCU Horned Frogs' guard decided to play a round of Mexican Train against Orlando Magic's Jalen Suggs and her brother, Tanner Van Lith, she boldly declared her win before the game began.
"Tonight I'm going to whoop up on Jalen and Tanner in a game of Mexican Train," Van Lith said. (5:10)
As the producers inspired the lot to raise the stakes of the game, the three decided that the loser would have to get on the floor for 30 push-ups. Van Lith won in style, as Jalen Suggs did not anticipate her to reveal the 1-10 tile.
After celebrating her win, Hailey Van Lith demanded 30 push-ups each from Suggs and Tanner.
Van Lith transferred to TCU from the LSU Tigers this summer. She averaged 31.3 minutes per game last season under coach Kim Mulkey but operated with little offensive freedom and fewer scoring opportunities.
Van Lith took 9.9 attempts per game with LSU, which is identical to her freshman year with the Cardinals (9.4 attempts per game). The guard averaged more than 12 shots per game every other year.
Hailey Van Lith's decision to join TCU comes behind the increased opportunities Mark Campbell's playbook and game style can offer her. A good season can determine Van Lith's team, draft stock and paycheck next season in the WNBA.
Hailey Van Lith pursued undergraduate degree in finance to understand NIL
When the concept of NIL began surfacing in the college basketball world, Hailey Van Lith was still in high school. To understand the ins and outs of it, the guard pursued her undergraduate degree in finance. She believed that it would allow her to control her monetary ventures and set a strong foundation for herself and her family.
"And I actually got my undergrad in finance because of it (NIL)," Van Lith said in the same episode.
"I wanted to know how to understand my own money, knowing that I could have an opportunity to set my kids up for their future to set my kids' kids up if I know how to use my money correctly, that definitely inspired me to pursue finance for my bachelor degree." (2:10)
Hailey Van Lith landed multiple new agreements after transferring to the Horned Frogs. Her On3 NIL valuation is $779K, making her the fifth-highest NIL holder in women’s basketball.
