Hanna Cavinder shares how she overcame struggles with body dysmorphia as twin Haley Cavinder and fans express empathy: “Love this”
Hanna Cavinder is preparing for her return to college basketball with intense training. The guard has been open with fans about her struggles with her body image and is known to promote a healthy lifestyle and eating habits. On Tuesday, Cavinder once again talked about her personal struggles on Instagram.
Sharing two pictures of herself from a year apart, she wrote:
"Lately, i have been struggling with Body Dysmorphia and feeling not my best (cuz i don’t feel like my “skinniest” self). These photos are 1 year apart. You probably see a little more body fat and muscle. But the most important change I see is what u can’t see."
Hanna Cavinder then went on to explain that she was focussed on her muscles and adopted unsustainable eating habits and training methods to change her body. However, she admitted that they had negative effects on her bodily functions.
"I share this because it’s something so many of us can struggle with at one point or another," Cavinder added. "Sometimes all it takes is zooming out and reminding yourself of how far you’ve come.
"1 year has brought so much growth. It may not be linear, but it gets easier and easier to snap yourself out of it when your body feels safe, and knows you are working with it and no longer against it."
Haley Cavinder and other fans supported Hanna in the comments with encouraging messages.
“Love this,” Haley wrote.
Hanna Cavinder is excited for the 2024-25 college basketball season
After three years at Fresno State, Hanna Cavinder and her twin moved to Miami for their senior season. After leading the Hurricanes to a historic Elite Eight appearance, the twins stopped playing basketball and explored other ventures.
Feeling like they had more to give, the Cavinder twins are back, and Hanna expressed her excitement:
“It honestly felt really refreshing right when I got back on campus. Obviously, I love TheU, the community, and everything that I represent here. There’s no better feeling than being back on campus.”
She also spoke on the potential of the current Miami roster, saying:
“Like Coach Cullop said, there’s so much versatility, so many people that can play different positions on the court, so I’m excited for that. We have a great balance on the inside, our post players are so good, so I think that’s going to open it up for the guards.”
Miami begins its season on Nov. 4 against Stetson Hatters at Coral Gables.
