Dan Hurley costs UConn as Huskies fall to Dayton
Hurley isn't one to shy away from courtside drama, but the UConn coach has outdone himself this time around in Maui.
The invitational started with a heartbreaking overtime loss to Memphis, partly due to a poorly timed technical foul as a result of Hurley’s outburst on the sideline. UConn's struggles continued with another defeat, this time against Colorado, accompanied by more of Hurley’s antics.
In the opening game against Memphis, UConn rallied from a double-digit deficit in the final two and a half minutes to push the game into overtime. However, when Liam McNeeley was called for an over-the-back foul, Hurley’s reaction derailed the team’s progress.
Instead of accepting the call in a tied game, Hurley directed heated complaints at the officials, crossing the line with remarks that didn’t require advanced lip-reading to interpret. This moment hurt The Huskies as they went down 99-97.
In their next game against Colorado, Hurley again had to be restrained by his coaching staff.
The Huskies return home for their next matchup against UMES on Saturday, Nov. 30.
