“He deserves to be on the radar”: NBA draft expert believes Bronny James has flipped the perception of scouts who didn’t consider him an NBA prospect

After a poor freshman season with the USC Trojans, Bronny James has impressed many scouts with his performances during the ongoing 2024 NBA draft combine. On Day 1, Bronny hit a 40.5" max vertical and kept the momentum going in his 3-point shooting drills.

He hit a snag on Day 2 during the 5v5 scrimmage but retrieved himself in the second scrimmage on Wednesday, where he scored a team-high 13 points.

ESPN's draft expert Jonathan Givony joined "NBA Today" on Thursday where he expressed positive signs of Bronny's draft prospects:

"Bronny has done a good job of showing that he deserves to be on the radar," Givony said. "He was just as good as a lot of the other players that played five-on-five, and he's a guy that has a real role at the NBA level as a three-and-D off-guard who can make shots, defend his position, play with energy. I compare him to like a Gabe Vincent, Gary Harris-type player."

Givony had previously removed Bronny from the 2024 mock draft and added him to the 2025 mock draft. However, the analyst has changed his stance on Bronny James' status after the combine:

"He's moved into the late second round of our latest projections," Givony said. "We're gonna have him at 54 in our next update. That's all the way up from the back end of the top 100. Talking to NBA people out here, they feel like he's legitimized himself as a real NBA prospect."

Bronny James quashes rumors of teams drafting him to lure his father

LeBron James had previously revealed his wish of playing alongside his son, Bronny James, in the NBA. From the moment Bronny declared for the draft, rumors have been rife about the possibility of LeBron transferring to Bronny's new team. LeBron has a player option available this summer.

During his media availability on Tuesday, the elder James dismissed all those rumors and said:

“This is a serious business,” James said. “I don’t feel like there would be a thought of ‘I’m just drafting this kid just because I’m gonna get his dad.’ I don’t think a GM would really allow that. I think I’ve put in the work and I’ll get drafted because of not only the player but the person that I am.”

For now, Bronny seems to be focused on making it through the draft process. The 2024 NBA draft will be held on June 26 and 27.
