"He's always talking trash": Carmelo Anthony's son Kiyan Anthony once engaged in banter while playing pool with dad

Carmelo Anthony's son Kiyan Anthony has grown remarkably over the last year. It is indicated by his 2024 Peach Jam average of 21.8 points, a near triple of his 7.8 ppg in the 2023 EYBL circuit. The former New Yirk Knicks star has been a major factor in his growth. Melo does not shy away from putting Kiyan against his sharpshooting fireworks while teaching him the fundamentals of sports.

Melo battled with his competitive and fatherly instincts during an episode of Overtime's "Evolution," a series dedicated to capturing Kiyan Anthony's basketball journey.

While playing pool, a photo of Anthony and Kiyan forced him to reminisce about his son's birth. However, Carmelo Anthony's reflection was cut short as his competitive side surfaced, sparking a friendly trash-talk between the father-son duo.

"This game is taking a little bit long for me, you're not really that good," Carmelo Anthony said." (13:30)
"He's always talking trash, talking about how I don't know nothing about pool," Kiyan Anthony said.

Carmelo wasn't done with his jibes, saying:

"He don't wanna win. These kids, they don't want to win man."

Carmelo Anthony's initiation sparked a back-and-forth between the two. Kiyan composed himself, getting the final pocket and claiming that he knew the outcome of the game from the beginning.

Adding salt to the injury, the high schooler also mentioned that winning isn't a new feeling, since he is a regular at defeating his dad at pool.

Carmelo and Kiyan Anthony stand by each other in every decision

Carmelo Anthony likes to get the best of Kiyan whenever they are on the court. The 17-year-old does the same. He even claimed to beat Melo in a one-on-one on the "7PM in Brooklyn" podcast.

However, despite all the competition the father-son duo loves to engage in, they equally love to support each other. A glimpse of the same came last year in May when Melo had announced his retirement.

Amidst the notions of the former Nuggets star's retirement being a premature decision, Kiyan Anthony open-heartedly welcomed his father’s new chapter. Moreover, he was elated by the idea of having Melo in his huddles and at his game.

From Carmelo Anthony's end, the same gesture comes through, allowing Kiyan to carve his path. Even though fans want Kiyan to suit up at Melo’s alma mater, Syracuse Orange, next year, Carmelo wants the teenager to choose a program that fits him the best.

The high school senior is now slated to visit the Trojans in California from September 14 to 16. Alongside USC, he is considering testing out Ohio State, Scarlet Rutgers, Syracuse, Florida State and Auburn.
