“I can impact winning on any team”: Top draft prospect Alex Sarr makes confident remarks after getting linked to Hawks
Alex Sarr is the frontrunner to be the number-one pick in the 2024 draft. While the entire talent pool is considered relatively weak, Sarr's athleticism, size and defensive abilities have been quite impressive. He is a 7-foot-big man with a 7-foot-4 wingspan and a standing reach of 9-foot-2.
"I think I can impact winning on any team I land, I'm pretty confident in that," Sarr said reponding to theories about declining workouts.
"I think my defensive versatility and offensively me being able to play different spots make me, I think, an impactful player in winning," he added.
Atlanta had the 10th-worst record and a mere 3% chance of winning the lottery, but here they are.
If they choose to add Sarr, the Hawks will get a prime weapon to restrict perimeter players and someone who could work with Trae Young in pick-and-roll situations.
If the Hawks call a pass on Sarr, the Wizards could utilize him to fill their longstanding void. The franchise mounted a rebuild last year but has yet to see significant results; Alex Sarr brings that.
Alex Sarr reportedly declined workouts with the Hawks
While Alex Sarr actively refrained from revealing the teams he worked out for in recent weeks, there is a notion that he might not see the Hawks as a perfect fit for him.
In a recent appearance on the radio talk show 92.9 The Game, Atlanta’s general manager, Landry Fields, claimed that despite the Hawks’ consistent interest in Sarr, his agents declined the offer to conduct a pre-draft workout with the franchise.
The exchange solidifies Sarr’s intention for the Hawks. Nevertheless, the drafts, like an on-court battle, tend to harbor smokescreens. Moreover, Sarr already has a history of spending 2 years in Atlanta, making it an easy lifestyle fit.
