“I couldn’t keep going”- Carmelo Anthony’s son Kiyan Anthony canceled three schools due to 1 reason
Carmelo Anthony's son Kiyan Anthony is on the verge of deciding on his college. In October, he announced his top three schools: Syracuse, Auburn and USC.
According to 247Sports, the New York native received over 20 scholarship offers from Division I colleges, including Tennessee, Rutgers, Michigan, Ohio State, Illinois, and others. In July, Anthony cut his list of potential schools down to six, considering Auburn, Syracuse, Ohio State, Rutgers, Florida State, and USC.
However, the 6-foot-5 guard did not go on a visit to all colleges. Speaking with former LSU star Angel Reese on an episode of the 'Unapologetically Angel' last Thursday, he shared that he skipped trips to three schools because he could not keep traveling.
"I went on three," Kiyan replied to Reese when asked about how many visits he took. "I canceled three visits. I couldn't keep going and going and staying. [5:35]
Kiyan Anthony visited his NBA icon father Carmelo's alma mater Syracuse last year. The four-star prospect also took a trip to USC in September this year.
Anthony revealed his deciding factors for committing to his college destination, saying he would choose the school where he could develop his game.
"Just what coaches have been on me the latest and where I can go in right away and see growth, where I can develop my game and just try to win," Anthony said. "Whatever the coaches are telling me, where they can see my playing, what my role is."
Kiyan Anthony picks a date to announce his college
The new season of college basketball is just a few days away and Kiyan Anthony is making headlines as he prepares to make his final call.
The Long Island Lutheran star will choose between Syracuse, USC and Auburn on Nov. 15, he told Joe Tipton of On3 Recruits. Tipton mentioned that Anthony will make his decision on Carmelo Anthony’s podcast, '7PM in Brooklyn.'
Kiyan Anthony mentioned that he would be proud to follow in his dad’s path by going to Syracuse: He added:
"He never pushes me to go to Syracuse just because his name is on the gym," Kiyan told Overtime.
"He did so much at Syracuse. He knows that I'm my own person. I've just got to make my own decision at the end of the day ... He's not going to make me follow in his footsteps unless I really want to."
Carmelo Anthony is the best player to ever don the Orange uniform. In his single season of college at Syracuse, he averaged 22.2 points and 10 rebounds, guiding them to the national championship title.
