“I hate Kentucky but why did Duke jump that high”: College hoops fans unsatisfied after latest updated men's Top 25 AP Poll
The latest men's Top 25 AP poll was released this evening (Dec. 9). The rankings have a new No. 1 as Tennessee climbed to the top spot after Kansas dropped two games in a row.
Slam posted the updated poll on Instagram, which garnered plenty of reactions.
As always, there were hot takes and theories abound as fans were quick to jump online to express their disappointment in the latest poll.
"How does auburn not move?" one fan commented.
"i hate Kentucky but why did duke jump that high... especially over them" another wrote.
"How did Kansas go from number 1 to number 10 ? Coulda sworn they beat duke" another fan wrote.
These comments came after the Jayhawks faced a tough week, suffering a 76-63 loss to Creighton and then falling to Missouri. Auburn, ranked second in last week's Top 25 AP poll, had a chance to capitalize on the Jayhawks' stumble but fell short against Cooper Flagg and Duke.
Some fans also questioned why Missouri wasn't ranked this week after causing an upset.
"How is Missouri not ranked they just beat the 1. Kansas" one fan commented.
"I'm starting to think the AP voters just rank these teams bad on purpose to get people talking about it. There's no way Duke should be ranked over Kentucky, or Kansas is ranked 10 and Mizzou is still unranked. Do they even watch games?" another wrote.
"Mississippi state beat the number 18 team by 33 last week and only have one loss how are they not higher." another fan commented.
Men's Top 25 AP poll for Week 6 sees shake-up after upsets
It was a challenging week for AP voters, with numerous upsets and high-stakes matchups shaking up the Top 25 rankings. Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Cincinnati all fell to unranked opponents in Week 6, and the chaos continued with conference losses for both Purdue and Illinois.
Kentucky and Marquette did manage to bounce back with wins against Top 25 rivals, however.
The Blue Devils, who had already suffered narrow losses to Kentucky and Kansas earlier this season by a combined eight points, made a strong statement by defending their home court against Auburn. This crucial victory arguably solidified their reputation as a top-tier team and propelled them to No. 4 in the Top 25 AP poll.
