"I'm going to lose you": Carmelo Anthony relishes moments with son Kiyan Anthony before his NBA debut

Carmelo Anthony's son, Kiyan Anthony, is two years away from his eligibility for the NBA draft. But the New York Knicks legend is already preparing him for the transition. Kiyan, an incoming high school senior, has been enjoying a great summer, putting up incredible performances at Nike EYBL.

During an appearance on "Meet the Afroballers,” Carmelo Anthony spoke with host Ivy Winfrey about how he is preparing his son for the pro league.

"With Kai (it) is more allowing him to go to his own journey and develop and understand, like, you still got to develop cognitive skills too," Melo said. "You still got to develop your physical level, got to develop like everything has to develop in order for this to work.

"So, as long as this is right and we putting the work in, you do what you do like, you shouldn't feel pressure, you shouldn't. Let me feel pressure to do what I got to do as a parent. You shouldn't feel no pressure to be my child."

Carmelo also used Zaire Wade and Bronny James to explain how different Kiyan Anthony's journey to the NBA is going to be. Dwayne Wade's son, Zaire, skipped college to play for the G League and ABL.

"Kai is the one that's sitting back and being able to learn from those two right," Carmelo Anthony said. "It's like, OK, I want to go this route. I want to go that. I don't want to do this. I don't want to do that. So we have an opportunity to really be strategic on how we move through this process because once you're there, I'm going lose you. ... the world got you."

The road ahead for Kiyan Anthony

With his upcoming senior season, Kiyan Anthony has a lot on his plate as he narrows down his college choices. In July, he announced his top six schools: Syracuse, Rutgers, Auburn, Florida State, Ohio State and USC.

While fans and analysts were quick to assume that he would choose his father's former school, the Orange, Kiyan is more focused on finding the school that fits him the best. While he has mentioned that Syracuse is a top contender, since he feels like a family with the team, he has been more open to seeing what others also have to offer.

Carmelo Anthony helped Syracuse win its first and only national championship. With the prospect of him joining, the Orange fans are eager to see Kiyan Anthony lead them to another. Plus, playing at the practice facility named after your father is always cool.
