“I'm not going sit here and punish a dad” - Rich Paul backs LeBron James for breaking “black father” stereotypes with Bronny James

Playing with Bronny James is LeBron James' ultimate desire. However, despite knowing the ins and outs of the league, LBJ has consistently allowed Bronny to carve his unique journey. He watched Bronny's USC games in the Los Angeles Lakers locker room and rooted for his eldest son at the combine.

Now, as Bronny faces the heat of heightened expectations due to his last name, Rich Paul shines a light on LeBron James' fatherhood journey. Claiming that James is changing the narrative of being a "black father," Paul said (via bleacherreport.com):

"I'm not going sit here and punish a dad for being excited about his son because for many years, the 'black father' was portrayed as absent and he was portrayed as non-supportive."

James also displayed a supportive stance during the All-Star weekend in February. When the crew at TNT inquired about Bronny's plans, James claimed that Bronny's decision for the big league would be entirely his own.

Moreover, in his latest podcast with JJ Redick, James encouraged Bronny James to take his time finding his identity in the league, easing the burden of living up to his 21-year-long legacy.

Rich Paul does not want two-way contracts for Bronny James

Bronny James elevated his stock during the combine and displayed promise at Klutch Sports' Pro Day, which was held in the Lakers' vicinity. As he transitions to individual workouts with NBA teams, Rich Paul is putting a staunch stance against two-way contracts. Being Bronny's agent, Paul is discouraging NBA teams from offering such deals to the young player.

"Yes, that’s absolutely true. Teams know that. I’m not doing that,” Paul said (via bleacherreport.com).

Two-way contracts are generally given to players seen as developing assets. These players have an option to play at NBA hardwood but can also be downgraded to their G-League roster.

Currently, Bronny has workout offers from more than 10 NBA franchises. Even though his candidacy for 2024 is still not solidified, he is considering meeting with a handful of teams.
