"I'm very proud of you": LSU's Flau'jae Johnson's mom Kia Brooks "proud" of daughter's musical achievement

Flau'jae Johnson’s musical career reaches another level. The LSU Tigers’ player/rapper’s song “Came Out a Beast” was listed as one of the 2024 NFL Songs of the Season. It's a collaborative song with Lil Wayne and one of the highest-charting songs from her debut album.

When she notified the win to her mother on the Best of Both Worlds podcast, sharing that the New Orleans Saints had already used it as a hype song in their locker room, Kia Brooks couldn't help but be proud of Flau'jae Johnson.

"I'm very proud of you," Brooks said. "That made me feel so good. You made it Flau. You made it. Especially with the Saints in the locker room with it," she added.

Moreover, as Flau'jae Johnson highlighted that the song's video crossed a million views in three days, Brooks also praised the marketing team behind the production.

"Shoutout to the team coz I feel like they really been doing their thing, marketing-wise, making sure it is where it needs to be. It's limits Flau'jae. You are at where no one can deny," Brooks followed.

Despite the pre-announced collaboration with Lil Wayne, the song was released as part of Flau'jae Johnson's debut album “Best of Both Worlds."

Released on June 28, the song was the fourth track on the album and immediately became one of the best of the nine songs. Notable LSU names like star big Angel Reese, NFL quarterback Joe Burrow and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal were mentioned in the song.


How did Lil Wayne's collaboration with Flau'jae Johnson occur?

Lil Wayne and Flau'jae Johnson connected after WNBA legend Sue Bird jokingly asked Lil Wayne about his potential collaboration with Johnson. During LSU’s final four game during their championship season, Wayne had joined the sportscasting crew as a guest.

Wayne promised that he’d connect with Johnson soon for a musical endeavor, and things came into motion. He Face Timed to discuss a collab and sent a demo verse a few weeks later.

Moreover, just like the song, the “Came Out a Beast”a video sprung out of nowhere. Johnson already had a few music videos from the album near the launch, but the success of “Came Out a Beast” prompted the singers to compliment it with a video.

Johnson and Wyne connected on a video call to discuss the same in the first week of July. Moreover, they were seen shooting on July 9 in Los Angeles, two days before Johnson’s ESPY performance.
