“I’m sure they’ve had many talks”: Geno Auriemma expands on Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd playing together in 2024-25 college WBB season
UConn fans have yet to see the pairing of Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd on the court that has lasted an entire season. Coach Geno Auriemma is hopeful that the upcoming season will finally showcase the partnership between the duo.
In their three seasons together at Connecticut, Bueckers and Fudd have only shared the court in seventeen games. The last time the duo played together was at the start of last season when Fudd suffered a torn ACL that sidelined her for the rest of the season.
In 2022-23, Paige Bueckers redshirted due to an ACL tear before the season started and missed a year. So, this upcoming campaign would be the first time the two stars play together for a full season.
"I've almost forgotten what that could look like, or should look like, or have an imagination of, 'Wow, I've seen them at their best together,' and I'm anxious to see that again," Auriemma said of the duo.
"It's really an unknown at this point. I can only go by some of the things that I've seen I practice. I do know that having a much more aggressive Azzi would really help that combination work. It's one of the great expectations that exist in our program right now."
When asked if Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd still think of their partnership and how it may unfold, Auriemma confirmed they have had many discussions.
"I'm sure they've had many talks about it and I'm sure they had a lot of talks about it before and it always fell apart. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that we get to see it."
Azzi Fudd drops glam photos from NY Fashion Week with Paige Bueckers
Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd are not playing together on the court lately but they have been giving fans a taste of their connection through interactions on social media.
They were together for most of their summer break, attending several events and matches, like the New York Fashion Week, WNBA games, the US Open Tennis, and more.
On Friday, Fudd shared a series of glamorous pictures from her time at the fashion week.
"NYC Fashion week pics that I forgot to post," she posted.
The photos show Fudd in a high-slit denim skirt, and one of them also featured Bueckers in her unique apparel.
"Silly girl," the Minnesota native commented.
Fudd is expected to miss a few games at the start of the season as she recovers from a long-term injury, so fans have to wait a little further to see Paige-Azzi bond on the court.
