"I might put all the girls in there”: Kiyan Anthony jokes with father Carmelo Anthony about his “close friends” list
Kiyan Anthony joined his father, NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, on an episode of Instagram’s original series “Close Friends Only", where they sat down to discuss life, basketball, family, and social media.
The orange" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-is-sponsored="false">Syracuse commit gave fans a glimpse into his approach to Instagram’s “close friends” feature, and his playful relationship with his dad.
In the episode released on Monday, Carmelo asked his son how random his close friends list really is.
“I changed my close friends a lot too,” Kiyan said. “So, like, if I wasn’t to post something for just my friends to see, just order all my bros to see. I’ll take everybody out and just put my closest friends. But like if I got a good picture or something, I might put all the girls in there, see what I’m saying?
“Close friends could vary and change depend on the day. I mean, I’ve never seen a close friend so I’m assuming I’m not in a close friend but I’m just saying.”
Born in March 2007, Kiyan has been under the spotlight since birth, growing up as the son of one of the NBA’s greatest scorers. While Carmelo Anthony carved out a Hall of Fame-worthy career, becoming a 10-time NBA All-Star and winning three Olympic gold medals, Kiyan has been steadily forging his own basketball path.
The talented shooting guard has now committed to Syracuse, the same college where his father famously led the Orange to an NCAA Championship in 2003. A four-star recruit in the Class of 2025, Kiyan announced his decision to attend Syracuse in November.
The guard also had offers from several Division I programs, including Seton Hall, Illinois, Tennessee, Indiana, Memphis, Pittsburgh, Michigan, and Florida State.
Kiyan Anthony ready for college after graduating high school
Kiyan Anthony officially graduated from high school, and had a graduation party on June 1 with close family and friends.
The four-star guard and Syracuse commit completed his studies at Long Island Lutheran, where he balanced academics with basketball throughout his time at the school.
His graduation comes just weeks before he begins his next chapter on the court, preparing to suit up for Syracuse in the 2025-26 college basketball season.
