“I played with Denver Nuggets, when Carmelo Anthony was there”: Ex-NBA pro details basketball journey on Flau'jae Johnson’s pod
Decades before J Cole and Flau'jae Johnson, Master P laid the groundwork for rappers to dabble in the world of basketball, and the other way around. He started playing minor league basketball in 1998, during the peak of his musical career, and tried out for multiple NBA teams. He attended basketball clinics with the big league teams and even participated in exhibition/preseason games.
So, when the multidimensional mastermind was on Flau'jae Johnson's "Best of Both Worlds" podcast, the LSU Tigers guard couldn't help but ask him about his basketball endeavors. Not only did Master P summarize his NBA journey, but he also shared the factors that kept him from extending his big league portfolio.
"You know what, to be honest with you, basketball saved my life," Master P said. "A lot of people don't realize I've always been good in basketball. Also, I didn't just go to the NBA, they had to come pick me. I had to go handle my business in the minor league first.
"I played with the Dallas Mavericks on a 10-day, I played with Denver Nuggets when Carmelo Anthony was there, I played with the Sacramento Kings in the summertime.
"Imagine when you last to get cut in the NBA. That mean you can really play on that team, and then you know they are gonna call you back as soon as somebody get hurt."
Flau'jae Johnson's new album is in the works
Less than a month into her junior year with the Tigers, the rapper/hooper announced the launch of another album on her podcast. Flau'jae Johnson's "RnB 4" collection will showcase eight tracks and will talk about Johnson’s personal life experiences, romantic life and heartbreak. The album will be released around Feb. 14.
"It's getting cold, and I know y'all boo'd up, RnB 4 activated," Flau'jae Johnson said. "I think it's gonna be eight songs on the project. It's gonna be beautiful, it's gonna be well put together, it's like a new me. I'm pivoting, I'm getting older and I got more to talk about going through heartbreak and relationships. So, y'all gonna love it, bro."
Flau'jae Johnson released her debut album on June 28, featuring nine tracks and collaborations with 2Rare, NLE Choppa and Lil Wayne. It solidified her as a budding rapper in the music industry and also skyrocketed her NIL to the top spot in women's basketball.
