“I was shocked that [wife] Andrea didn’t run out on the floor”: NCAAB analyst shows disappointment after UConn HC Dan Hurley “embarrassed himself”

NCAAB enthusiasts Rob Dauster, Terrence Oglesby and John Fanta criticized Dan Hurley and his UConn's losing stint at the Maui Invitational in the Dec. 2 episode of "The Field Of 68: After Dark." The three praised the coaching acumen of Penny Hardaway (Memphis Tigers), Tad Boyle (Colorado Buffaloes) and Anthony Grant (Dayton Flyers).

Dauster pointed UConn's struggles to their non-competitive schedule before the Maui games, and that it should be a learning curve for Hurley's future endeavors. While Oglesby shared his appreciation for Hurley's coaching, he believes that the back-to-back champion coach got exposed, joking that Hurley's wife, Andrea, should have intervened.

"I thought they got exposed and not only did they get exposed, I thought - love Dan, love him, one of my favorite guys, one of the best guys ever off the floor - I thought he embarrassed himself in Maui," Terrence Oglesby said.
"There's no other way to put it. I thought he embarrassed himself. I was shocked that Andrea didn't run out on the floor and be like hey dude get your s**t together. That's how bad it was." (1:50)

Dan Hurley's fifth trip to the Maui Invitational resulted in a dismal three-loss streak. While there were plenty of controversial moments in the final minutes of these games, the Huskies have now dropped to No. 25 in the AP poll from being the No. 2 team.

Andrea Hurley has unique tactics to push Dan Hurley

In an interview with Graham Bensinger in September, Dan Hurley revealed the unique methods Andrea Hurley uses to motivate and get him out of bed on tough days. Hurley points to the Huskies’ 85-66 blowout against the Bluejays in February when he expected Andrea to console him after the loss.

"You think that the next morning she's gonna tell me that it's going to be okay," Hurley said. "She's telling me 'You're a lousy coach, you acted like a baby last night and why don't you take out the garbage because you are no good at coaching."

Andrea has supported his coaching dream throughout his basketball journey and does not shy away from holding him accountable. She also helped Hurley make the pivotal decision regarding the Los Angeles Lakers this summer.
