The WNBA All-Star night in Phoenix saw Caitlin Clark meet her former college rival, LSU's Flau'jae Johnson, at the Footprint Center. The WNBA All-Star team defeated Team USA 117-109.
Former Iowa Hawkeyes star Clark, representing the WNBA All-Star side, posed with Johnson, who later shared it on her Instagram handle.
"WNBA ALL STAR 2024 HAS BEEN 1 FOR THE BOOKS," Johnson wrote in the caption.
Caitlin Clark and Flau'jae Johnson shared the court as arch-rivals for two seasons. Johnson's LSU beat Clark's Iowa in the 2023 NCAA Tournament championship game. That wasn't the only final loss by Clark, as Iowa lost another against South Carolina in 2024.
Caitlin Clark was the queen of setting new records at college and that's still the case. She set a rookie record for most assists at the WNBA All-Star game after recording 10 assists. Previously, she also set the record for most assists in a single game in the WNBA by securing 19 assists against the Dallas Wings.
While Caitlin Clark's masterclass led the All-Stars to a win, she didn't have a great time shooting. In 26:04 minutes of action, she scored only four points, missing all 6 of her 3-point attempts and shooting 2-for-8 from the field. Despite that, she linked well with Angel Reese, another college rival, in the game to defeat the Olympics-bound Team USA.
Angel Reese talks about teaming up with Caitlin Clark at All-Stars
Reese and Clark were both overlooked for selection to Team USA, which will take part in the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, both shone in the WNBA All-Star game. During the event, Reese discussed teaming up with Clark after having been rivals in college and now in the WNBA.
"It's all cool, When she gets the ball, I'm running to look for the ball because she's gonna throw it. She's been great to play with. I mean, the future, we're gonna be playing together a lot. Hopefully, in 4 years, we can be in the Olympics together. I'm excited," Reese said.
Despite both of them missing this Olympics, their progress indicates they will in time lead Team USA in many international fixtures in the near future.
