IN PICS: Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders bring their showtime skills and camaraderie to headline Colorado MBB game
Colorado Buffaloes star duo, Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter brought their on-field synergy on Saturday for the men's basketball team, who secured a win over Bellarmine. Their partnership was a key factor in the Buffaloes' turnaround from a disappointing 1-11 record in 2022 to an impressive 9-3 season in 2024.
Both of their efforts have earned Colorado a spot in the Valero Alamo Bowl, marking the program’s first bowl game appearance since 2020. Meanwhile, a Twitter page uploaded a picture that caught fans' attention.
In the picture, Sanders and Hunter brought their hooping skills on the hardwood, with the cornerback/wide receiver seen ducking on a dime by the quarterback.
"Welcome to CUEC, fellas"
Before the game, Colorado honored its football team with a special ceremony at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Both Sanders and Hunter received individual recognition. However, the spotlight shone brightly on Hunter, who recently claimed the prestigious Heisman Trophy. The duo donned custom basketball jerseys complete with their names and numbers, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Although they weren’t participating in the basketball game itself, Sanders and Hunter took the opportunity to engage the audience. Sanders tossed a perfect lob off the backboard, and Hunter soared for a stunning dunk.
The upcoming Alamo Bowl would be Sanders and Hunter's final appearance for the Buffaloes.
Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders transforms Colorado Football
Under coach Deion Sanders, the Buffaloes have experienced a dramatic transformation. Shedeur Sanders, excelling as a quarterback, posted 3,926 passing yards, 35 touchdowns and just eight interceptions.
Hunter, a dual-threat athlete, contributed significantly as both a wide receiver and cornerback. He recorded 92 catches for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns on offense, while his defensive stats included 31 tackles, 11 passes defended, a forced fumble and four interceptions.
Sanders and Hunter’s success has made them top prospects for the upcoming NFL Draft, with both projected as potential top-five picks.
As the Buffaloes prepare for the Valero Alamo Bowl, Deion Sanders shared his perspective on the importance of bowl games. A veteran of four bowl appearances during his college career at Florida State, Sanders recalled the joy, saying:
“The things that I remember the most about a bowl is the stuff. Like we wanted to walk in the room and on our bed, they had a bag full of stuff, and we went through the stuff. I love that part, and it wasn’t as intense as a game, but you had to win. You wanted to win.”
Sanders also highlighted the bonding moments shared with teammates during bowl weeks.
