Caitlin Clark’s college journey was nothing short of legendary, becoming the NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer across men's and women's basketball. Known for her unparalleled scoring ability, court vision and unrelenting competitive spirit, Clark led the Hawkeyes to the NCAA championship game in 2023 and 2024.

As Feb. 2 approaches, the Hawkeyes community eagerly anticipates honoring one of the greatest players in its program history.

Iowa coach Jan Jensen urges focus on present after consecutive losses

The Iowa Hawkeyes (12-5, 2-4 Big Ten) have experienced a tough set of matchups, suffering three consecutive losses. Iowa has fallen to Indiana (74-67), Illinois (62-57) and Maryland (74-66) in their last three games. This marks the first time Iowa has lost back-to-back games since 2022.

Hawkeyes coach Jan Jensen, however, is determined to shift the focus away from comparisons to past teams. Speaking to the media, Jensen emphasized the importance of allowing this year’s squad to carve its own path.

"I think it's really important for everybody to let this year's team be this year's team," Jensen said. "Everybody keeps looking back and saying, 'Oh, they didn't lose that (game).' And we didn't. We had a really good crew. They played together for four years."

Jensen acknowledged the challenge of living up to past successes but stressed the importance of focusing on the present and the potential of her current players.

"There's a lot of season left," Jensen said. "Whether we would have won Sunday or tonight, I can't afford to compare what has happened in the past. These guys are giving me a lot, and they're still young."

Jensen highlighted the need for leadership development among the upperclassmen, a key area she believes the team is missing right now.

"I've got to develop a little bit of senior leadership or upperclassmen leadership," Jensen added. "But I'm not interested in looking back or thinking about the future. I just really want to focus on the fact that I've got to keep finding the right combination."

The Hawkeyes will be aiming to regroup and bounce back. With a young roster and Jensen’s commitment to building a cohesive and focused team.
