Iowa’s Lucy Olsen drops 3-word reaction for ex-Villanova teammate’s inspiring caption
Lucy Olsen transferred to Iowa after two seasons at Villanova, but she still keeps in touch with her former teammates. She responded to an Instagram post by Zanai Jones with a three-word message on Thursday.
Like Olsen, Jones also moved out of the Villanova Wildcats this summer and joined Southern Methodist University for her senior year. On her Instagram, Jones shared several images of herself on the court and training, along with an inspiring caption.
"how you gonna win when you ain't right within🪬 #lookwithin," Zanai wrote.
Olsen, who played with Jones at Villanova for three seasons, commended her in the comments.
"Ur sooo tuff," Olsen replied.
Jones' post came after her team SMU Mustangs secured a close 61-57 win over Texas Tech on Wednesday at Moody Coliseum. She finished the game with 11 points, eight assists and three rebounds.
Jones is enjoying the best season of her collegiate career with the Mustangs, averaging 8.5 points, three rebounds and a team-high 4.2 assists per game.
On the other hand, Olsen is also thriving in her new environment with the Iowa Hawkeyes. The senior guard is leading Iowa in points and assists, putting up 19.0 ppg and 5.3 apg through eight games.
Lucy Olsen's ex-Villanova teammate Zanai Jones reacts to her clips from Iowa State game
While the two former Villanova teammates are now on different teams, they still show support for each other. When Lucy Olsen posted highlight clips from Iowa’s recent game against Iowa State, Zanai Jones was among many who hyped her up in the comments.
"behind the back ,to the snake, to the faderrr🙂↔️," Zanai wrote.
The post showed Olsen pulling off impressive footwork and dribble moves against the Cyclones defense.
The 5-foot-10 guard recorded a season-high 25 points on 9-of-22 shooting from the field and 7-of-9 from the free-throw line. She also made five assists and two steals in the Hawkeyes' 75-69 win.
"This is so cool, the fans are awesome and yeah, I'm glad we won it," Lucy said after the game. "I just don't like to lose, so I want to help my team out wherever I can, and [Sydney Affolter] stepped up also. Yeah, it was fun, we all stepped up in the second half, but yeah, we got it done."
Lucy Olsen and No. 21 Iowa (9-1) will travel to East Lansing to face No. 17 Michigan State in their first Big Ten play on Sunday.
