“It was flooding”: Caitlin Clark, Jada Gyamfi, Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall recall “disgusting” hotel experience
Jada Gyamfi was joined by Caitlin Clark, Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall for Monday's episode of her podcast, "Fresh Tawk." During their time at Iowa, Gyamfi formed deep friendships with the iconic senior class, making this episode one of the most anticipated.
The players discussed their careers in the WNBA and their time with the Hawkeyes, while also reminiscing about memorable moments they shared. One such memory was from the 2023 season when the Iowa players were staying at a hotel that flooded.
"It was flooding, and the alarms were going off," Gyamfi recalled (19:12).
Marshall explained that the alarms were triggered by the sprinkler system.
"I'm pretty sure, yeah and people's luggage had all this water on it," Clark added.
Gabbie Marshall said that Gyamfi's room, which she shared with Sydney Affolter, was also flooded.
"Wet brown, like sewer water. It was disgusting," Gyamfi shared.
Caitlin Clark reveals the game that made her the most nervous
On November 13, 2023, the Iowa Hawkeyes faced off against the Northern Iowa Panthers and Caitlin Clark said during the podcast that it was the game that made her the most nervous.
"We went to Northern Iowa and like, that's a hard place to play - sold out," Clark said. "I was like personally kind of nervous for that game. I don't know why, it was just like the instate rivalries, you never know how they're going to go. And we went in there and just destroyed them by 40." (20:24)
Clark also reflected on her WNBA draft night, when she was picked No. 1 by the Fever. Despite the joy, she said that there was one moment that left her feeling disappointed.
"After my name was called, I got swept off to do interviews. I didn't even have my phone, and suddenly I heard, 'Kate just got picked.' It hit me so hard-I wasn't there to see it," she said.
Kate Martin was selected by the Las Vegas Aces in the second round and was one of the surprise picks of the night. Since then, both guards have enjoyed their time in the WNBA, with Clark leading Indiana to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
With Caitlin Clark, Martin and the rest of the experienced senior class out of Iowa, the Hawkeyes have entered a new era under coach Jan Jensen.
