"It's The GOAT Birthday": LSU's Flau'jae Johnson celebrates rapper Lil Wayne's birthday by sending a gratitude-filled wish
Flau'jae Johnson's latest Instagram post is to celebrate the biggest feature on her debut album, Lil Wayne, the hip hop artist who turned 42 on Friday. Johnson's album, "Best of Both Worlds," received appreciation from some of the biggest names in the music and basketball world. However, a part of its huge success comes from Wayne's inclusion for the song, "Came Out a Beast."
Johnson uploaded a series of snippets and clips from her shoots with Lil Wayne on Instagram, thanking him for believing in her.
"It’s The GOAT Birthday, and I Want To Thank You For Giving Me A Shot And Believing In Me You Changed My Life Forever !! BIG 4 Big 5 2x 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🤝 @liltunechi," Johnson wrote.
Unlike a few other songs, Flau'jae Johnson and Lil Wayne's track first came out as part of her album on June 28 this summer. As Wayne and Johnson marketed around their collaboration, the song helped popularize the album.
As a result, their song became the most streamed one of the album. After nearly 10 days, Johnson inquired Wayne about a possible video for their song. On June 9, days before Johnson's performance at the ESPYs, the two were spotted shooting in Los Angeles.
Sue Bird helped Flau'jae Johnson connect with Lil Wayne
Johnson’s connection with Wayne commenced during the LSU Tigers’ championship journey in the 2022–23 season.
During one of the NCAA tourney games, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi and Wayne spearheaded ESPN’s alt-cast. It was there that Bird playfully asked Wayne about a possible timeline of collaborating with Johnson for a rap song. Lil Wayne immediately promised to reach out to the player.
Flau'jae Johnson had cultivated a name for rapping at the time. She had released a few singles and had plans of collaborating with other artists in the industry that offseason.
She signed an independent distribution deal with Jay Z's label Roc Nation this January, which gives her the right to choose most of her management unit and rights to the masters.
