Johni Broome extends double-double streak with dominant showing vs. Duke
Broome continued his stellar play for the Tigers, recording his sixth consecutive double-double in the loss to Duke. He previously achieved that feat in Auburn's wins over Kent State, North Alabama, Iowa State, North Carolina and Memphis. Broome is averaging 22.2 points and 14.3 rebounds through this six-game stretch.
Broome and Pettiford kept the game close against Duke, scoring 29 of Auburn's 42 points in the second half. Broome scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting while Pettiford amassed 14 points during that period.
The Tigers' rally fizzled out, though, as they missed seven straight field goal attempts in the final 4:07 minutes. Auburn dropped to 7-1 with the loss while Duke improved its overall record to 6-2.
Cooper Flagg's showdown with Broome lived up to the hype as he also produced big numbers for Duke. He stuffed the stat sheet against the Tigers, recording 22 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks in 38 minutes of play.
Flagg shot 7-of-18 from the floor and 8-of-12 from the free throw line. He scored 16 points in the second half to help the Blue Devils stop the Tigers' rally.
Flagg got some offensive help from Isaiah Evans, who caught fire in the first half. He scored 18 points during that period, shooting 6-of-8 from beyond the arc. Evans was a surprise package off the bench for Duke. He didn't see action for the Blue Devils in their previous games against Kansas, Arizona and Kentucky.
