South Carolina forward Joyce Edwards had a field day against Charleston Southern, scoring a career-high 20 points off the bench. The Gamecocks ran away with an 82-46 victory over the Buccaneers at the Colonial Life Arena on Thursday.

The 6-foot-3 Edwards made 6 of 9 shots from the field and was perfect from the free-throw line, making all her eight attempts in 21 minutes for the Dawn Staley-coached squad.

The No. 2-ranked freshman in the Class of 2024 was inserted in the middle of the first quarter and put up two points on two free throws at the 4:07 mark, giving South Carolina an early 8-4 cushion. However, Charleston Southern unleashed an 11-3 surge, handing the visitors a 15-11 lead in the first 10 minutes.

Edwards scored three points and snared two rebounds in the second period for the Gamecocks, who shook off the cobwebs and reversed the tide for a 34-26 halftime lead. She contributed four more points in the third, helping South Carolina build a 54-36 advantage.

The freshman remained in the payoff period for the No. 2-ranked Gamecocks and put up 11 points on three layups, a jumper and three free throws to be the only player in double figures for the SEC-affiliated team.

South Carolina bucked a slow start, scoring 71 points between the second and fourth quarters to pick up an 82-46 victory over Charleston Southern on Thursday.

Joyce Edwards dropped a career-high 20 points in 21 minutes for the Gamecocks, who improved to 11-1 (5-0 at home) in the 2024-25 women's college basketball season.

Raven Johnson added nine points, seven rebounds, two assists and four steals while Ashlyn Watkins tallied eight points, eight rebounds, three assists, one steal and three blocks. Te-Hina Paopao and Sania Feagin contributed eight markers each.

After only scoring 34 points in the first half, the Dawn Staley-coached squad stepped on the gas, orchestrating a 48-20 surge in the next 20 minutes to run away with the victory.

The Gamecocks made 29 of 63 field goal attempts, including 5 of 15 from the 3-point line, and shot 19 of 23 from free throws. Their defense limited the Buccaneers to 30% shooting, including 17.6% from outside the perimeter and forced 23 errors that generated 20 turnover points.

South Carolina won the basic stats, ruling the rebounds (40-32), assists (17-9), steals (11-7) and blocks (6-1) departments by a mile. The Dawn Staley-mentored unit had a 25-6 edge in fast break points and won the inside points battle, 42-24.
