JuJu Watkins jokes about potential bizarre Guinness World Record after NIL deal with Uninterrupted
USC's JuJu Watkins currently starring in the docuseries 'On the Rise' through her NIL deal with Uninterrupted. The latest episode of the show features a hilarious quip by the Trojan star about breaking a world record.
An Instagram post by Uninterrupted on Monday highlighted Watkins' potential feat. However, that record is not basketball-related but rather audio equipment-related.
“Today I had on three mics, so that’s a Guinness world record," she said. "Never experienced that before. But honestly, this is what it’s all about for women’s basketball. Just pushing that narrative, getting that coverage. So I’m blessed to be in that position.”
Episode five of 'On the Rise: JuJu Watkins' out now
Episode five of 'On the Rise: JuJu Watkins', presented by State Farm, highlights the USC basketball star’s college debut. JuJu Watkins stepped into the spotlight immediately, facing Ohio State in a game that marked the beginning of a new era for USC women’s basketball.
The episode gives fans an inside look at JuJu’s first college game, which took place over 250 miles from Los Angeles. Despite the distance, the excitement around the top-ranked freshman followed her all the way.
Viewers get to see behind-the-scenes moments, like the team’s bus ride to T-Mobile Arena, pregame speeches from head coach Lindsay Gottlieb, a practice session, and the nervous excitement of JuJu’s family.
One of the episode’s highlights is a surprise from Vanessa Bryant: brand-new, unreleased Kobe sneakers for the whole team. JuJu chose the “Reverse Grinch” pair—red shoes with green laces.
"The shoes," she says, "are just fire."
At T-Mobile Arena, the Trojans warmed up in a nearly empty gym, but the buzz around JuJu’s debut was undeniable. Before the game, JuJu answered fun questions for Bleacher Report’s 'Shoot Your Shot' series, covering topics like her favorite Usher song and her love for hot chocolate. She also chatted with the game’s broadcast crew, which included her idol, Candace Parker.
While JuJu was happy to help grow the game off the court, her main focus remained on winning. Before tip-off, Coach Gottlieb reminded the team about hooping.
"You guys have earned the opportunity to be confident on this stage. Now let’s go hoop."
The Trojans built a lead as large as 19 points early in the third quarter. But Ohio State, a team that made the Elite Eight last season, wasn’t about to back down. As USC’s lead shrank to nine points, JuJu picked up her fourth foul and had to sit out, giving Ohio State a chance to take a two-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
JuJu returned in the final period and made her presence felt, scoring seven more points to finish with a game-high 32, breaking Lisa Leslie’s record for the most points scored by a Trojan in a debut. Her performance helped USC secure the win.
Reflecting on the moment, JuJu said,
"Man, Fight on, bro. This is what USC is all about. So I’m just here to continue on that legacy."
Episode five of 'On the Rise: JuJu Watkins' makes it clear that JuJu wasted no time proving why she’s one of the most exciting players in college basketball. The episode is available to stream now on Peacock.
