“Just as the script said” “Textbook nepotism“: College hoops fans react to Bronny James getting picked No. 55 in 2024 NBA draft

Just like many narratives suggested, the Los Angeles Lakers picked Bronny James with their No. 55 pick in the 2024 NBA draft. Nevertheless, the verdict still hangs on LeBron James' contract situation. James could either opt into his player option and eye a fresh deal or continue the ongoing extension that will make him a free agent next season.

Regardless, the Lakers' second-round pick should enable LeBron James to live out his dream of sharing an NBA court with his son during the final leg of his career. It will also make for the first father-son duo in league history if they play together.

The Lakers' decision sparked plenty of emotions amongst fans, mostly due to Bronny James' unusual journey to the league:

"Textbook nepotism but ok," a fan quipped on X/Twitter.
"Didn't I hear him say not so long ago that 'I want to make it on my own...not because of my father'?" another fan wrote.
"I feel like we all expected this lmao but this is great," another fan added.

Moreover, fans also swarmed to highlight LeBron James' potential influence on the draft and the younger James' journey:

"Just as the script said," a fan replied.
"Tampering at its finest," another fan suggested.

Magic Johnson reacts to Bronny James' draft

Los Angeles Lakers legend, former part-owner and former President of Basketball Operations Magic Johnson shared his reaction to Bronny James' NBA entry. Johnson shared a post on X to celebrate the historic move and highlight the significance of the father-son duo.

Basketball fans will now get to see Bronny James suit up for the NBA's Summer League, which is set to take place next month. The Lakers are set to play three games starting from July 6, where they will play Sacramento, before games against the Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat on July 7 and 10, respectively.

Nevertheless, fans' eyes will now be set on LeBron James' decision. James has until June 29 to solidify his status with the Lakers.
