Kansas State's Coleman Hawkins throws a cheeky jab at Carmelo Anthony's son Kiyan after revealing final six schools
Carmelo Anthony's son Kiyan revealed his top six college choices on Thursday. The list included his father's alma mater, Syracuse, as well as USC, Rutgers, Ohio State, Auburn and Florida State.
Overtime posted a short interview with the shooting guard, and Kansas State transfer signee, Coleman Hawkins commented, poking fun at the way Kiyan said Rutgers.
"And wugurs," he wrote.
After withdrawing from the 2024 NBA draft, Hawkins committed to the Wildcats on a $2 million NIL deal. After four years with the Illinois Fighting Illini, the forward will play his final college season in 2024-25.
Kiyan Anthony, meanwhile, still has the final decision, which he said in the interview will come in November or October, before his senior high school season begins.
Talking about joining the Orange, he said (per On3):
“They’re on me heavy. I’m looking to take a second visit. I want to go to a basketball game when the season starts.”
He also spoke on one of his finalists, Ohio State:
“I know it’s a new building program with Coach (Jake) Diebler over there. They were the first coaches in the gym to come see me today, so that shows that they’re really interested in me. I really like that so they’re really high on my list. I’m looking forward to taking a visit after Peach.”
Kiyan Anthony shares his criteria for the final selection
While many believe that Kiyan Anthony will most probably follow in the footsteps of his father, Carmelo Anthony, by going to Syracuse, the shooting guard disagrees with this notion. In a 2023 interview with Yahoo! Sports, Anthony said:
"I feel like everyone does think I’m going to go to Syracuse, but that’s not the case. Syracuse is definitely an option and a school I like, but I’m going to go to the best place for me."
The No. 4-ranked guard explained the criteria based on which he will be choosing his college team. To On3, he said:
“I’m looking for good coaching, and I want to play for a good team. I want to win. I feel like all the schools that I am talking to have a winning culture. I’ll want to go somewhere that is family-oriented too. Fast-paced, an offense that spreads the floor and keys in on versatility and guard play.”
But before college, Kiyan Anthony has one year left at Long Island Lutheran High School. He enjoyed an incredible performance during the EYBL circuit this summer and is expected to continue to excel in his senior year as well.
