Kentucky Wildcats recreate hilarious Drake meme after $250 Million worth star splashes money for them
The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team celebrated their 93-85 victory against the Louisville Cardinals. However, the team’s partnership with Nike’s NOCTA collection, inspired by rapper Drake, worth $250 million as per Celebrity Net Worth, made a buzz. Originally launched under former head coach John Calipari, the collaboration has carried into the Mark Pope era.
Yesterday, the Wildcats unveiled their latest NOCTA-themed attire — a bold blue-and-white sweatsuit that proudly displays their Kentucky pride. Their social media team didn’t miss the opportunity to share the look with fans, including a nod to a famous image of Drake from a decade ago.
The recreation of the photo — where Drake sat with Kentucky’s 2014-15 team in the film room — had fans buzzing with nostalgia. Head coach Mark Pope joined in on the fun, modeling the outfit in a group photo that sparked lighthearted jokes about it resembling an album cover for rapper Lamont Butler.
Drake’s special connection with Kentucky Wildcats
Drake’s connection to Kentucky basketball goes far beyond sponsorships and stylish gear. His relationship with the Wildcats began years ago when the rapper first attended the program’s Big Blue Madness event at Rupp Arena last season. It was when he officially aligned himself with the Wildcats. Over the years, he has developed relationships with NBA stars like LeBron James and Chris Paul.
He didn’t stop there, showing his dedication by attending the Kentucky versus Louisville game. That's where he was later featured on former head coach John Calipari’s postgame radio show. The Grammy-winning artist has also made multiple visits to the Kentucky campus, including a return in April for a concert. The rapper told Page 2:
"I’m not jumping off the bandwagon."
Ranked No. 5 in the nation, the Wildcats hold a 10-1 record and a seven-game winning streak at home. Their game against Colgate ended with the record of 78-67. The Wildcats entered halftime with a 38-36 lead in the second half, outscoring their opponent by 12 points to secure the win. Kentucky displayed shooting skills, hitting 42.9% from the field and 32.3% from beyond the arc.
