“Kind of wild a little bit for my age”: When LSU HC Kim Mulkey talked about her sparkly outfits
Apart from cultivating Angel Reese for the WNBA or bringing the first-ever NCAA championship to the LSU Tigers, Kim Mulkey is also known for her unique courtside outfits. Her normalization of bold and lurid color combinations, interesting textures and extravagant embellishments are a constant talking point among college hoops fans.
When The Advocate's features editor Jan Risher asked Mulkey about her upcoming fashion choices in October 2023, Kim Mulkey reflected on her partnership with Queen of Sparkles and gave an insight into her outfit choosing process.
"I don't know that I think, everybody knows that Queen of Sparkles gives me my jackets and clothes and I'm forever indebted and grateful," Mulkey said. (15:20)
"So whatever they put on my bed and give me to choose from I'll try to pick the one that I like or maybe the one that fits me the best. It's kind of gotten wild a little bit for my age. I look at these colors and these sequins and I go, 'I'm too old for that' and then I get talked into wearing it."
Mulkey also revealed that while she does not handpick the outfits that get delivered to her, she does not have to spend a dime on her eye-catching court-side outfits.
Kim Mulkey reaches 100-win mark with the LSU Tigers
As the Tigers defeated the previous year’s Final Four returnee NC State (82-65) on Nov. 27, Kim Mulkey made history by becoming the fastest coach in LSU history to garner 100 wins.
In the post-game conference, the 2023 NCAA championship coach credited her success to the talent of her players. Kim Mulkey also highlighted the players' willingness to buy into her culture and system.
"It's just coaching good players," Mulkey said, per the Daily Comet. "Throughout my career, I've been blessed to coach players that believe in our system and what we do. Coming to LSU is not any different than when I was at Baylor for 20-plus years. Kids have to believe in you and let you coach them."
LSU (11-0) is currently in the middle of a tough 15-day stretch where they play five games. The Tigers won against Grambling on Sunday and will now host Louisiana before facing Seton Hall in a neutral venue.
