Lamont Butler had his best game for Kentucky in the 2024-25 college basketball season, erupting for 33 points and leading the Wildcats to a 93-85 win over Louisville on Saturday night at the Rupp Arena in Lexington.
Butler was perfect from the field, making all 10 shots, including 6-of-6 from the 3-point line. He was 7-of-12 from the free throws and finished with three rebounds and six assists in 32 minutes of action for Kentucky, which improved to 10-1.
The 6-foot-2 San Diego State transfer went to work early, recoring two assists in the early minutes of the game. Butler made his first points on a three-pointer that gave Kentucky a 14-9 lead.
The guard followed it up with another triple and an assist to Andrew Carr that handed Kentucky a 19-9 lead. Louisville chopped the deficit to four, but Butler made two free throws to put Kentucky 34-28 up.
He recorded his fourth assist on a pass to Jaxson Robinson, who buried a triple that gave the Wildcats a 39-31 edge. Butler made two more layups to finish with 12 points in the first half.
Butler caught fire early in the second half, making three consecutive 3-pointers and a layup to give Kentucky a 59-49 lead with 15:55 left.
He made a free throw and a layup to quell Louisville's rally and build another six-point advantage at the 13:52 mark of the second half. Butler's free throw and another triple put the Wildcats up 77-67 with 6:51 remaining.
His back-to-back assists to Otega Oweh gave the Mark Pope-coached squad an 88-79 lead before his three freebies iced the game for Kentucky, who won for the eighth straight time at home.
