“Let’s see if this holds up in March”: College hoops fans skeptical of SEC teams despite Tennessee’s rise, Auburn’s Maui win and more
SEC teams have made some hot starts this season. With Tennessee currently sitting at the top of the Top 25 AP Poll and Auburn right behind them at No. 2, it's safe to say that the conference is dominating college hoops at the moment.
But fans aren't convinced. Considering that an SEC team hasn't won a championship in 13 years, there's plenty of room for doubt, as some fans have shown on Instagram.
Bleacher Report Hoops posted about their dominance this season on Monday, and fans were quick to shut it down.
"Let's see if this holds up in March." a fan commented.
"Y'all are putting way too much stock in that ACC challenge bro, they're going to be like a three bid league this year." another wrote.
Meanwhile, a couple of fans brought up the SEC's extended title drought.
"SEC hasn't won a championship in 13 years. ACC has won 5 in 13 years." one fan commented.
"That's cool and all but the SEC hasn't won a NCAA Championship in men's basketball in what will be 13years. Good luck 😂" another wrote.
The doubt continued in the comments, with a couple of fans thinking the ACC will come out on top.
"and ACC will end on top yet again 🦈" another fan wrote.
"True but acc is probably gonna win it all 😂😂 again" another commented.
SEC dominating early in college basketball this season with nine teams in Top 25
The Southeastern Conference has established itself as a dominant force in college basketball this season, and the latest AP Top 25 Poll reflects just that. Tennessee now sits atop the rankings at No. 1, with Auburn close behind at No. 2 after their impressive triumph at the Maui Invitational.
The Tigers' victory in one of the sport’s most prestigious early-season tournaments cemented their reputation as a team to watch.
The dominance doesn’t stop there, however. Kentucky holds the No. 5 spot, Alabama is at No. 7, and Florida rounds out the Top 10 at No. 9, giving the conference control of half the Top 10.
The depth continues with Oklahoma (No. 13), Texas A&M (No. 17), Ole Miss (No. 19), and Mississippi State (No. 25), bringing the total to nine teams in the AP Top 25—which is staggering for any conference.
Even outside the rankings, the conference is making waves. Missouri, Arkansas, Georgia, and Texas all received votes, while LSU (8-1), Vanderbilt (9-1), and South Carolina (6-3) are quietly building strong cases for future recognition.
With this depth and momentum, the conference is positioning itself as the conference to beat heading into March Madness.
