"Like father like son": UConn's Paige Bueckers pokes fun at Gonzaga star for "redemption" era
UConn star Paige Bueckers is known for her playful banter on social media, often poking fun at her teammates and opponents in a lighthearted way. She took a jab at her former UConn teammate and current Gonzaga star Ines Bettencourt.
After the Bulldogs' fifth win of the season on Sunday against New Mexico, Bettencourt, who scored 14 points in the game, posted an Instagram story of herself.
"I got my redemption," Ines wrote tagging Paige Bueckers.
The Husky senior reposted Bettencourt's story onto her own with a funny response.
"Like father like son," Paige wrote, adding the saluting emoji.
Bueckers said something similar to Bettencourt this offseason when she left UConn for Gonzaga.
“Man… forever my son 🥹 I love you my child, go be great,” Bueckers commented on Bettencourt's heartfelt farewell post on Instagram.
Bettencourt lived with Bueckers, Dorka Juhasz and Amari DeBerry in an off-campus apartment while in Storrs.
The Minnesota native was in her third year when Bettencourt arrived as a freshman in 2022. However, she barely spent any time on the court, playing just 9.0 minutes per game as a freshman and 5.6 mpg in her sophomore season.
At Gonzaga, the 5-foot-9 guard has become a starter, averaging 31.5 minutes per game and scoring 10.8 points, 2.7 assists, and 2.2 rebounds, a redemption of sorts.
