"Looking forward to watching this team grow": John Calipari recognizes Sam Pittman-led Hogs’ win over Auburn Tigers
Arkansas men's basketball coach John Calipari on Saturday recognized Arkansas' college football coach Sam Pittman following the team's Week 4 road win over Auburn on Saturday. The Razorbacks won 24-14 in their SEC opener at the Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Calipari, who led Kentucky to a national title in 2012, hailed Pitmann, his coaching staff, and players on his X account after Arkansas led from start to finish to move to 3-1 (1-0 SEC).
"So happy for the Hogs! Coach Pittmans staff and players showed what they are! To win on the road in the SEC is not an easy task and they got it done! I’m looking forward to watching this team grow and compete! Go Hogs!," Calipari wrote.
The Razorbacks took advantage of the Tigers' (2-2, 0-1 SEC) five turnovers to secure the victory. Quarterback Taylen Green passed for 151 yards and ran for 80 yards for Arkansas, which is seeking to erase last year's nightmare of going 1-7 in the conference.
Green, whose highlight moment was a 58-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Satenga on 3rd-and-19 in the third quarter, made several crucial passes and drive-saving plays for the Razorbacks despite throwing two interceptions.
Ja'Quinden Jackson ran for 75 yards and scored two touchdowns for the Razorbacks, who grabbed four interceptions against Auburn.
John Calipari adds former Kentucky All-American to Arkansas' coaching staff
Arkansas coach John Calipari added a former Kentucky star in 2016 SEC Player of the Year and consensus first-team All-American Tyler Ulis to his coaching staff, as per Razorback Athletics.
Ulis will serve as one of the team's assistant coaches, reuniting with Calipari months after he served as student assistant coach for Kentucky in the past two seasons. He helped out during practices, individual workouts, and film sessions and assisted the coaching staff in practice and strategy preparations.
Ulis, who was picked by the Phoenix Suns in the second round of the 2016 NBA draft, guided the Kentucky-based “La Familia" to the TBT semifinal during the summer of 2024. The Lima, Ohio native is expected to graduate in Kentucky this December.
John Calipari's coaching debut at Arkansas is set for Oct. 25 in an exhibition game against Kansas at the Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The exhibition game is for charity and proceeds of the clash will be donated to Fore the Kids Foundation in Overland, Kansas and the Arkansas Children's Hospitals.
Coach Cal has close ties with Kansas, working as an assistant under Ted Owens and Larry Brown during the 1980s.
