Kylie Feuerbach is ready to lead the Iowa Hawkeyes after Caitlin Clark
In the last two seasons, Caitlin Clark, with Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall, had set the tone for the Hawkeyes at all times. With the three now out of the team, Kylie Feuerbach is set to be one of the leaders, along with Sydney Affolter.
When asked about her new role, Feuerbach said:
“I think that’s the most important thing right now is making sure we are making sure they’re on the same page as us, that they can all reach out to us if they have any questions.
“For me, working hard and always kind of going hard is my way of having leadership. They can see how I’m doing it, and they can learn from that.”
Marshall was a 3&D specialist as she worked to feed the ball to Caitlin Clark, fighting off the opponents. In the new season, Kylie Feuerbach is expected to fill the former player's spot.
“Kylie’s growth and her confidence this summer has been off the charts,” assistant coach Abby Stamp said. “She is so good defensively, and she has been so good defensively, that I think she steps into that role that Gabbie had for us, to step in and shut down the other team’s leading scorer.”
Last season was Feuerbach's first after a year's break when she tore her ACL and missed the 2022-23 season. In 2023-24, she averaged 2.6 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 13.8 minutes. The reduced time was to make space for the experienced senior members, but Feuerbach is expected to enjoy additional time on the court this season.
