LSU HC Kim Mulkey reacts with sarcasm as Flau’jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow review their own performances

Kim Mulkey's No. 7 LSU Tigers won 117-44 over Charleston Southern on Tuesday. Despite the blowout win, a reporter seemed to note the Tigers guards, Flau’jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow, were unhappy and weren't sporting serious faces.

When asked about this in the postgame presser, Johnson and Morrow replied that they were happy but were also focused on the areas that the team was lacking, specifically on defense. Mulkey also added her thoughts on the reporters' assumption.

"They're not morning people, probably a lot of it," Mulkey said (Timestamp: 2:29).

The game tipped off at 11 a.m. as the school hosted scores of local grade schoolers who came to the game on a field trip, creating a tremendous traffic jam around the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

Flau’jae Johnson finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds on a 7-of-15 shooting. Aneesah Morrow had 21 points and 20 rebounds. Mikaylah Williams added 25 points and took six rebounds with four assists and two steals.

"I would say, for me, I have to fix my face sometimes when I am happy about the performance of our team," Morrow said. "I feel like everybody got involved and everybody played together this game and you got to see that we had people with almost triple-doubles.

"Kailyn (Gilbert) almost had a triple-double, Flau'jae had a double-double. Just seeing us all share the ball and be able to score, but we could have did better defensively, for sure."

Kim Mulkey's comments on Flau’jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow's roles this season

After Angel Reese and her incredible on-court chemistry with Aneesah Morrow, a similar partnership between the guard and Flau’jae Johnson was expected. LSU coach Kim Mulkey named Morrow and Johnson as the leaders for the season and highlighted their skills during the SEC Media Day last month.

“Aneesah Morrow, you know, she was a transfer (from DePaul) last year, had an unbelievable year," Mulkey said. "Look for her to be one of our leaders and captains this year. She can take you off the dribble.

"She can shoot the 3 ball. She and Angel Reese were just dominant on the glass for us last year, and I expect her to be the same way.”

Kim Mulkey praised Johnson for her incredible skills and for her commitment to uplifting the program.

“She's just a joy to coach. When you look at Flau’jae Johnson, the word joy just jumps at you," Mulkey said. "She's happy, she's pleasant, she plays hard. She brings attention to our team because of her basketball skills, but also because of her rapping."

After the 2023 national championship and the Elite Eight run last season, Kim Mulkey will be hoping to build on the success and potentially lead the Tigers on another championship run.
