LSU icon Angel Reese picks which school Carmelo Anthony’s son Kiyan Anthony should play for: “I don’t know if you’re following your dad”
Angel Reese has been keeping herself busy in her first WNBA offseason. In the last two months, she has interacted with some of the biggest names in basketball through her podcast, "Unapologetically Angel."
A week after having NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal on the podcast, Reese invited Carmelo Anthony's son, Kiyan Anthony, to be the guest on an episode. The pair had a long conversation on several topics of interest, one of which was Kiyan's college choices.
Kiyan, a standout at Long Island Lutheran High and a key player for his father’s AAU team, Team Melo, is the 34th-ranked prospect in the Class of 2025, per 247Sports. His college choices include Auburn, Ohio State, Rutgers, USC, Florida State, and his father's alma mater, Syracuse.
Reese, who enjoyed a successful career with the LSU Tigers, offered Kiyan some advice before saying he could follow in his father’s footsteps to Syracuse.
"Syracuse was actually one of my best visits," said Reese. "I don't know if you're going to follow your dad, I don't know. I'mma say Syracuse."
Angel Reese and Kiyan Anthony discuss fear of leaving home
Angel Reese, who hails from Maryland, asked Kiyan if he was scared to leave New York to pursue college basketball elsewhere. The second-generation player said he had no such fear.
"You scared to go away from home?" asked Reese, to which Kiyan responded, "No, I don't."
Reese shared her own story of initially fearing leaving home, leading her to play for the Maryland Terrapins during her freshman season before transferring to Baton Rouge.
"I was kinda scared to go away from home, and I wanted all my family to come," said Reese. "Obviously, your family going to come support you, regardless. But, it was hard for my family to come. If I was to go to LSU my first year, obviously my family probably wouldn't be able to see."
Angel Reese was one of the few highlights in a disappointing season for the Chicago Sky. Starting all 34 games she appeared in, she averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals.
Apart from Caitlin Clark, Reese was the only rookie to receive a vote for the WNBA Rookie of the Year, with the Indiana Fever guard easily winning the award after an astonishing season.
