Months after MiLaysia Fulwiley's March Madness exit, GF JaMeesia Ford sets sight on NCAA title: "Feel like this is my year"
Hours before the commencement of the NCAA's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, MiLaysia Fulwiley's girlfriend, JaMeesia Ford, reiterated her intentions.
The biggest college track event of the year will take place at the Hayward Field in Eugene (University of Oregon) from Wednesday to Saturday. Beginning with the men's decathlon, it will showcase 42 events (21 women).
Ford, the 2024 NCAA Indoor Champion, highlighted that she aims to win it all this year on the biggest stage. She collaborated with South Carolina and the NCAA's track handle to post her mixtape.
"I would say I'm very excited about this experience again," she said. "Last year was very nice, but this year, you know, I feel like it's my time this year."
JaMeesia Ford is coming off a historic stint at the SEC Outdoor Championship in Lexington earlier this year. She broke multiple records and became the first Gamecock to win the Commissioner's Trophy in two decades.
MiLaysia Fulwiley's girlfriend partnered with Jayla Jamison, Cynteria James and Zaya Akins for the 4x100 meters and 4x400 meters relays and bit gold in both. She also partook in 100m (11.07s) and 200m (22.01s) sprints, winning the gold medal and setting new records.
JaMeesia Ford's recent record and form puts her in a prime position to leave a mark at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. It comes months after Fulwiley made her second consecutive NCAA championship appearance with South Carolina.
MiLaysia Fulwiley will suit up for South Carolina's rivals next season
MiLaysia Fulwiley and JaMeesia Ford will not share the garnet and black jerseys next year. The incoming junior guard entered the portal to join the LSU Tigers. This comes after the Gamecocks were shunned in the NCAA championship game by the UConn Huskies.
Fulwiley played a crucial role for South Carolina in its 2024 undefeated title run. She averaged 11.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.7 steals on 43.8% efficiency as a freshman. She gained national attention and became the first NCAA WBB player to have an NIL deal with Under Armour.
However, the guard was unable to earn a bigger role under Dawn Staley in the past season, which is said to have influenced her decision to transfer. She averaged 11.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals.
