Notre Dame vs. Rutgers: Box score, stats and summary feat. Dylan Harper (Nov. 26)

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights were able to secure an 85-84 overtime home win in the Players Era Festival - Impact Tournament against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Dylan Harper dominated with 36 points for Rutgers and made his presence known as the team held onto the win.

The Scarlet Knights (5-1) came out of this game with a lot of momentum and finally got a star performance out of Harper. However, two starters failed to score a point and that just isn’t going to cut it on most nights.

The Fighting Irish (4-2), meanwhile, played a good game but the team could not get the big shot when they needed it. The lack of defense wound up costing them in the end.

Here's a closer look into the box scores to see how this game wound up.

Notre Dame vs. Rutgers Game Summary

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were able to shoot the basketball well in this game, especially from deep as they finished shooting 29-of-66 (43.9%) from the floor, 14-of-33 (42.4%) from 3 and 12-of-15 (80.0%) from the free throw line. They also won the rebounding battle with 42 total rebounds (14 offensive, 28 defensive).

However, the team struggled defensively as they had only two steals and one block. Notre Dame failed to record a single fast-break point and committed 24 fouls. The defense and constant fouling was the difference in this game.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights, on the other hand, were able to shoot at a good level. They shot 44.6% overall, 33.3% from deep and 67.9% from the charity stripe. Getting 28 free throw attempts undoubtedly helped as Notre Dame was dealing with some foul trouble.

The Scarlet Knights stepped up defensively with nine steals and three blocks. They turned the basketball over nine times and scored 20 points off the 14 turnovers they forced. In the end, it was the Dylan Harper show, who ended the night with a game-high 36 points, six rebounds and six assists.
