Paige Bueckers Stats Today: How did UConn star fare vs Providence (Dec. 29)
Paige Bueckers put up an efficient 23 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals to lead No. 7 UConn to a 67-41 victory over Providence in a Big East Conference matchup at XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut on Sunday.
The 6-foot guard made 8-of-12 shots, including 1-of-4 from the 3-point line, and connected all of his six attempts from the free throw line in 27 minutes of action for the Geno Auriemma-coached squad. It was a bounce-back game for the fifth-year senior, who bled for her 22 points in the team's last outing against USC.
The Hopkins, Minnesota native went off early, scoring 14 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 from free throws. Her efforts gave UConn a 28-6 lead in the first 10 minutes.
She added five points and a steal in the second quarter on 1-of-2 shooting. She made 2-of-2 from the foul line and the Huskies led 45-19. By halftime, the guard tallied 19 points, two rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Bueckers had four points, making 2-of-4 shots, in the third frame. She added a rebound and an assist as UConn remained in the driver's seat 56-31. She would return in the fourth period and recorded an offensive rebound before going to the bench minutes later.

UConn moved to an early lead in the Big East standings with a 67-41 victory over Providence on Sunday. The Huskies raced to a 28-6 lead and never looked back to improve to 11-2 (2-0 in Big East).
Paige Bueckers led UConn's offense with 23 points in 27 minutes of action as they moved up the leaderboard, one win ahead of Creighton (10-3, 2-0) and Seton Hall (10-3, 2-0).
Freshman Sarah Strong added 14 points, two rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block for the Huskies while Azzi Fudd bucked a horrendous shooting day to contribute eight points.
UConn shot 41.3% from the field and limited Providence to 32.5%. Although the Friars outrebounded the Huskies, 37-27, the Geno Auriemma-mentored squad picked them apart in the assists (17-6) and steals (17-5) departments to administer the rout.
Grace Efosa led Providence (7-8, 0-2) with 11 points and seven rebounds. UConn, which led by as much as 31 points, forced 31 turnovers that produced 40 points off turnovers.
The Huskies will travel to Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee next on Jan. 1 to take on Marquette (9-3, 1-0).
