PHOTO: 2x champ Dan Hurley rocks “LET ME ASK MY WIFE” T-shirt during beachy family vacation in Bahamas
UConn men's basketball coach Dan Hurley and his family took some time to enjoy a summer getaway in the Bahamas. On Sunday, Hurley's wife, Andrea Sirakides Hurley, shared several pictures from their trip on her Instagram story.
Among all those photos, there was one that stood out: a T-shirt Dan Hurley was wearing that read, "LET ME ASK MY WIFE." He posed with Andrea on a sunny beach of the Turks and Caicos Islands in the southeast of the Bahamas.
The text on the T-shirt might reflect Hurey's relationship with his other half, Andrea, who has been a major source of support throughout his coaching career. For any major decision that needs to be made, the two-time national champion coach tends to consult his wife first before going ahead with it.
Earlier in April, Hurley said his wife's preference was a factor in his decision to remain at UConn when there was speculation about him potentially joining Kentucky.
"Oh my God, Kentucky or anywhere that's going to take her further from New Jersey," Hurley said. "I mean, we just went to Rhode Island, which I had to drag her to, and then to Connecticut. I got her closer. And now further? I can't afford a divorce right now, too. I just started making money."
Dan Hurley's wife Andrea was not happy with Lakers' offer
Earlier this June, when the LA Lakers offered Dan Hurley the coaching job, he declined to fill the vacancy left by Darvin Ham's departure. Hurley said that when his wife first heard the rumors about the Lakers wanting him as their next coach, she did not take it well.
"She was crying in the beginning," Hurley said [via the New York Post]. "I think, initially, the first couple days of it, she got violently angry and emotional, not like hitting me and stuff ... She got emotional, like, 'I can’t believe you’re bringing this. Our life is so great… it’s perfect. Our lives couldn’t be better, and now you’re bringing this s**t."
Andrea spoke out about the situation, saying that it was the hardest week of her life.
"You know, in my head, I’m saying to myself, 'We’re leaving.' Like, we just did this amazing thing that’s almost impossible to do, especially in this world of college basketball. And we’re just going to pick up and leave, like, we’re just, you’re just so good at this. Like, why? Why? Like why?" Andrea told WFSB.
Hurley eventually turned down a six-year, $70 million contract from the Lakers and decided to return to UConn. He aims to lead the Huskies to a three-peat in the upcoming season.
