Raegan Beers gives Oklahoma teammates wholesome handmade gifts for Christmas

Oklahoma Sooners center Raegan Beers bought her entire team a gift. It wasn't only thoughtful but also showed her creativity, as she gave hand-made blankets to everyone. This heartfelt gesture, however, was the result of a summer-long project.

Before the Sooners’ dominant 111-65 victory over the Omaha Mavericks, Beers had already captured her teammates’ hearts with the gifts. In that game, Beers tied her career high with 28 points and nine rebounds, falling just one rebound shy of a double-double.

The NCAA March Madness official Instagram page shared a video compilation showing Beers making the blankets and presenting them to her teammates, with the caption:

In an interview with ESPN, Raegan Beers shared how she began the project:

“I was like, 'I guess I'll find something else that's like crafty,' and so I saw a video about the blanket. I'm like, 'Oh, I'll try that,' and so I tried it, and it was really bad at first, but you know the first one is always just the warmup.'"

When Beers joined the Sooners during the summer, she was struck by how her new teammates embraced her. Beers wanted to return the kindness through a meaningful and personalized gift.

“Adjusting to a new system, a new different kind of culture is just different, and so they knew it was hard. It was kind of a way for me to give them a Christmas gift, but also give them something back because I loved being around them and loved that they welcomed me with open arms,” Beers explained.

The first two blankets took her around four hours each, but as she refined her process, she reduced the time to less than two hours per blanket. In total, she made 13 blankets, for each one of her teammates’ favorite colors.

Raegan Beers stepped into a new chapter with the Sooners

Earlier this year in April, Raegan Beers made waves in the college basketball community by announcing her transfer to Oklahoma from Oregon State. During her time at Oregon State, she averaged 17.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game last season.

Not only that but also shot an impressive 66.4% from the field, which was also the second-highest mark in the nation by a narrow margin. Her accolades included Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, Sixth Person of the Year, and third-team All-American honors from the Associated Press. Beers was also named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team and earned recognition on two all-conference teams.

However, following the dissolution of the Pac-12 and Oregon State’s women’s basketball program transitioning to the WCC as part of a two-year affiliate membership, Beers decided to enter the transfer portal.

In a video posted to social media platform X, Beers reflected on her decision:

“Now it’s time for the next chapter in my life and my career. I learned from an early age that I have to work for everything. I learned the importance of loving the process, and the process has led me here, a place that emphasizes the importance of loving the game, loving to compete, and loving Oklahoma.”

Raegan Beers chose Oklahoma over other prominent programs, including UConn, due to the alignment of values and her belief in the Sooners’ basketball culture. She joins a team, that has secured back-to-back Big 12 regular-season titles and three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances under head coach Jennie Baranczyk.
