Shaqir O’Neal drops 1-word reaction to hype father Shaquille O’Neal and Myles’ homecoming
Shaqir O’Neal, the son of NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, hyped his father and brother Myles O’Neal’s much-anticipated homecoming event on Dec. 30.
Myles promoted his event on Sunday on Instagram, which prompted a response from Shaqir.
The multi-talented Myles O’Neal is the other son of four-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal, carving out his path as a DJ and entertainer and making waves in entertainment circles.
The reaction from Shaqir summed up the pride and excitement surrounding Myles' event.
“Glee,” Shaqir commented
Shaqir is a junior basketball player for the Florida A&M Rattlers and is valued at $804,000 in NIL worth, according to On3.
His reaction underscores the unity and shared pride within the O’Neal family as they continue to achieve milestones in their respective fields.
When Shaqir O’Neal decided to carve his Legacy at FAMU
Shaqir O’Neal is determined to step out of his father’s shadow and create his own identity on the basketball court.
Now in his first year at Florida A&M, O’Neal is making a name for himself as a key player for the Rattlers. After transferring from Texas Southern after two seasons, the 6-foot-8 forward has become Florida A&M’s third-leading scorer.
O'Neal is averaging 9.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.6 assists and shooting 52.1%.
His standout performance came on Dec. 6, when he dropped 20 points in a 130-58 victory over Trinity College.
“I want to build a name for myself in Tallahassee. I love this place,” Shaquille O’Neal said in an interview with the Tallahassee Democrat. “I’m not going to let anybody down. I want to make FAMU proud.”
O’Neal’s journey hasn’t been without challenges. During his two seasons at Texas Southern, he struggled to find his footing, averaging just 1.6 ppg.
Despite limited playing time, he contributed to the Tigers’ back-to-back Southwestern Athletic Conference championships in 2022 and 2023.
After entering the NCAA transfer portal following the 2023-2024 season, O’Neal faced skepticism due to his underwhelming stats. He received little interest from other programs until FAMU’s coach, Patrick Crarey II, saw potential in him.
“I entered the portal to bet on myself,” Shaqir said. “Coach Pat ran into my dad and brother and said he was willing to take a chance on me. He checked me out during the summer and gave me an opportunity.”
Crarey’s gamble is paying off. He recognized Shaqir’s work ethic and potential from the start.
“He’s very green in terms of just getting into the game to play a lot,” Crarey said. “He’s going to be good.
"I don’t know if anybody on this team works as hard as he does outside practice. I’m proud of him and the things he’s done early in the season.”
For Shaqir, FAMU represents a fresh start and a chance to prove himself. With determination and hard work, he’s well on his way to forging his legacy.
